Nahanni National Park Reserve, established in 1976, to protect some areas of the Mackenzie Mountains Nature. It is located in the southwest corner of the Northwest Territories Dehcho First Nations traditional. When created, the Nahanni has an area of 4766 square km, but now, more than 30,000 square kilometers. The middle section is the South Nahanni River through the center of the park, through gorges and magnificent waterfalls Virginia.
Part of the park is mostly mountainous, with a varied topography that mountains, hills, plateaus, major depression, and the valley of the river closed. Altitude varies from 180 m (591 ft) above sea level.
There are relatively few lakes in the park. The four largest lakes of different sizes of 61-345 hectares. South Nahanni River was designated a Heritage River in 1987. Name of Park World Heritage list in 1978.
Due to the remoteness of the park is only accessible by air. After much research, is the means to fly with Air Simpson. Simpson Air is led by Ted Grant and based in Fort Simpson. They are very experienced in terms of the Nahanni National Park.
